Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become the central platform for construction, and lighting integration is now deeper than ever. Manufacturers provide detailed, intelligent BIM objects for their luminaires that contain not just 3D geometry, but also photometric data (IES files), energy consumption, product lifecycle information, and links to specifications. This allows architects and engineers to perform accurate lighting simulations and energy analyses directly within the BIM environment. The model ensures all stakeholders are working with the correct product data, streamlines the specification process, and facilitates clash detection. Post-installation, the as-built BIM model becomes a digital twin for facility management. This end-to-end digital thread reduces errors, saves time, and ensures the designed lighting performance is accurately realized and maintainable.
