Growing awareness of light pollution’s impact on ecosystems, human health, and astronomical observation is shaping outdoor lighting standards. „Dark Sky“ compliant fixtures are designed to minimize upward light spill (uplight), reduce glare, and use warmer color temperatures that are less disruptive to wildlife. Regulations mandating such fixtures are being adopted by an increasing number of municipalities and are often required for projects in sensitive areas. Manufacturers are responding with full product lines featuring shielded optics, precise cutoff angles, and appropriate spectral content. This represents a fundamental shift in the philosophy of outdoor lighting: away from flooding areas with light and towards using the right amount of light, in the right place, at the right time, with careful control.
