July 14, the State Council Information Office held a press conference, the General Administration of Customs relevant person in charge of the introduction of “the first half of 2025 trade in goods import and export situation”.

According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, in the first half of 2025, China’s trade in goods import and export value of 21.79 trillion yuan, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year, hitting a record high in the same period in history. Among them, exports 13 trillion yuan, an increase of 7.2% year-on-year, which is also the first half of the export scale in the same period of history for the first time exceeded 13 trillion yuan; imports of 8.79 trillion yuan, a year-on-year decline of 2.7%. It is worth mentioning that China’s imports and exports have been running in 9 consecutive quarters above 10 trillion yuan, and even 7 quarters to maintain year-on-year growth.

June month, China’s imports and exports as a whole, exports, imports, all to achieve year-on-year growth, and the growth rate rebounded: import and export scale of 3.85 trillion yuan, for the monthly import and export of the history of the second highest, an increase of 5.2% year-on-year. Focus to the building materials and home furnishing industry, in the first half of the year, China’s building materials and home furnishing exports continued to be under pressure, but showed signs of marginal improvement.

Data show that from January to June this year, building materials and home furnishings category exports overall decline, of which, furniture and its parts decline the largest, exports of about 236.45 billion yuan, a year-on-year decline of 5.7%; followed by lamps and lanterns, lighting fixtures and their parts, exports of about 138.85 billion yuan, a year-on-year decline of 4.9%; ceramics products exports of about 79.44 billion yuan, with the the same period last year was basically the same.

It should be noted that the June single month, building materials and home furnishing industry export data released positive signals: lamps and lighting products exports of about 27.6 billion yuan, an increase of 7.8%; ceramic products exports of about 15.59 billion yuan, an increase of 4.6%. Furniture exports fell 1.5% to 39.99 billion yuan, but the rate of decline has narrowed compared with the previous period, showing signs of rebound.

Some industry analysts pointed out that building materials and home furnishing export pressure is mainly affected by the weakening demand in overseas real estate markets, trade barriers increase and other factors. However, with the improvement of June data, as well as enterprises to actively explore emerging markets, the export situation in the second half of the year is expected to gradually pick up.
